What are paper towels used for?

Paper towels have similar purposes to conventional towels, such as drying hands, wiping windows and other surfaces, dusting, and cleaning up spills. Paper towel dispensers are often used in toilets shared by many people, as paper towels are often considered more hygienic than hot-air hand dryers or shared cloth towels.    

Can you recycle paper towels?

You cannot recycle dirty or clean paper towels or kitchen rolls, and so before throwing unused materials away, you should try to find a purpose for them. However, a small number of paper towels can be put with food waste and taken away for composting or recycling into biogas to produce heat, electricity, or transport fuels.   Do's • Wash and dry fruit and vegetables with paper towels before peeling to keep dirt and bacteria from transferring from the knife to the produce. • Wrap food in wet paper towels to steam-cook in your microwave, creating healthy meals and snacks. • Cover bathroom door handles with paper towels before turning them to reduce exposure to germs during cold and flu season. • Make a tight pad from two folded paper towels, add some vegetable oil, and use tongs to drag it across your grill's grates just before cooking to prevent food from sticking. • Clean the rubber edge of your car's wiper blades with a paper towel dampened with glass cleaner or water and a little dish detergent to extend the life of the wipers.    

Is it better to use paper towels or cloth?

Despite their usefulness, some people still bet on the cloth towel as the more effective and, of course, much more environmentally friendly. But why is that? In short, reusable cloths avoid the wastefulness of paper towels, but they can become a breeding ground for bacteria and other nasties.
